Oops, I accidentally sent this with the wrong thread title... ignore the
other one.

Hey,
I thought I sent this post a week ago, but it never seemed to come
through....

I think blaming the failure of the moderated forum on "the relationship
between dynamic and static" would be like me blaming the ants in my
apartment on Darwinian evolution... it may be right in a sense, but why go
that far when the answers are so much simpler than that??? I think the
problem is better compared to the relationship between mud and a tire....
that is, you can only spin your wheels without getting anywhere for so long.
The moderated forum, as I recall, was added to get greater focus on
topics in an effort to help us actually cut some ground, but it never
happened. The "focus" topics are no different than any of the topics
offered in the "discuss" forum... in fact, the only articulable difference
between the two forums is that one has a single topic, the other has many.
In fact, since posting to the MD is instant, and posting to MF is
delayed 24 hours and limited to one post a day, there's no reason why any
topic discussed in MF couldn't be discussed in MD, only faster and more
conveniently (and without having to waste the time of someone playing
moderator--- after all, if a post is irrelevant is no good, everyone would
just ignore it anyway... right?).
"Focus" produced no additional agreement on MoQ (as I've pointed out
several times in the past, very few of us even agree on the most basic
tenets of the MoQ), and it produced no additional results. Now, while one
may classify this as a problem "static latching" which has to do with "the
relationship between dynamic and static", that's just fancy MoQ speak for
the fact that "focus" has delivered no RESULTS... Basically, understanding
what's wrong with the "focus" forum is as easy as this... No advancements,
no improvements, no agreement, no results = No customers.
Until there's more agreement, (and IMHO, codification) as to what the
basic propositions of the MoQ are, there is literally no point in trying to
discuss its more exotic aspects, its perspective on current or historical
events, its relationship to other philosophical ideas or its
extension/revision. As we, ourselves, have proved with MF, it will always
just be more spinning in the mud.
