Re: MD Struan's academic credentials

Gosh, do all these member credentials really matter? We're reading the
thoughts of people, the quality of which I didn't think was entirely
contingent upon academic status. Personally I don't find anything wrong
with Struan; he does come off a little arrogant at times, but I don't think
the response given to him is fully justified. I think he takes joy in
generating pointless controversy, which should by all means be beyond someone
of his academic status. But people like hearing and seeing their name, it's
an ego thing. So if a bunch of people say "Struan, you're a conceited
prick," he likes that. Someone that smart should be out liberating the
world, not wasting his precious time on a mailing list for something he
despises anyway.

Another thing, I think that what may discourage newbies from staying on the
list once they've joined is the massive amount of daily posts. I don't know
of a way to reduce this, other than maybe having members combining everything
they would like to say for the day (or two or three days) into a single,
edited and compressed post. Too many times rapid responses are fired back
without sufficient thought on the subject. It gets to be like that ridiculous
show "Hardball" with Chris Matthews. I also would really like to see Omar
and Trip return (if they've even left in the first place); I found the new
thoughts and perspectives insightful.
