MD Struan's academic credentials

Hi Anthony and everyone,

Anthony, I strongly advise you to forget about impressing your academic
credentials on Struan. Graduate students at all levels are a major
element in front-line academic research, and an important and respected
part of the teaching staff. To teach a recognized University course
already means that the academic community recognizes your credentials.
As for the formal faculty appointment and the Ph.D., both will
eventually fall into place.

Now, if you really want some fun, try and find out something about
Struan's academic credentials. I had a hard time finding it, but this is
what I found:

===========
Shrewsbury School
http://www.shrewsbury.org.uk/
Religious Studies -
S. HELLIER B.A., Brunel University
===========

I can't be absolutely sure that this is our Struan, but that really is
all I could find. In my searches, all I found were this and his various
postings to the MoQ and various newsgroups. If he were a prominent
academic authority, I would expect a higher profile than this.
The only thing that doesn't fit is that Struan recently stated "I am not
teaching at a secondary school" - so either he has now left Shrewsbury,
he has a non-teaching position, he only teaches prep-school or perhaps
for some peculiar reason of his own, he doesn't regard Shrewsbury as a
secondary school.

In any case, being on the staff of a fee-paying school doesn't make one
an authority on Philosophy, and neither does having a B.A. degree from
Brunel University (formerly Uxbridge Technical College). And it
CERTAINLY DOES NOT give one the right to patronize bona fide graduate
students.

If I've missed something, and Struan has some more impressive academic
credentials to inform us about, I apologize in advance.
Of course, none of this has any bearing on the quality of what Struan
writes. Occasionally he writes something worth reading.

Yours,

Jonathan B. Marder,
Batchelor of Science, University of Nottingham
Doctor of Philosophy, Weizmann Institute of Science
