MD SOM, a bad website, 'philosophy' lectures and Quality defined precisely

Greetings,

I have to say, Bo, that your response to my 'prodding of brains' posting
was impressive and educated me upon the moq approach. This was a rare
occurrence on a forum marked by concerted personal attacks upon anyone
questioning the accepted norm and I appreciated it. The argument I
presented, however, did not end up in an SOM blind alley as you claim;
it merely showed that my particular point against the moq was badly
misplaced. I still prefer the other explanation as it coheres with
observation in a way that the moq does not.

Moving on to your main point, it should not surprise you to find me
agreeing with something Pirsig writes - I admit that he did repeat many
good ideas. The subject/object dichotomy is, as you point out, very
valuable. As a metaphysics it would stink, which is why nobody (myself
included) accepts it. At a fundamental level, the question of whether
quality resides in the subject or the object is not one of any great
concern to anyone I have ever met or read, for reasons which are obvious
to all, but, it would seem, the majority on this forum.

A more pertinent question would be to analyse what it is about those who
follow the moq that makes them need to develop their metaphysics almost
entirely in oppositional terms and against an imaginary enemy (SOM). I
remain extremely fascinated by this bizarre confirmation of the almost
infinite suggestibility of the human condition and that, incidentally,
answers those who question my motivation for being here.

Happy New Year,

Struan

P.P.S. I remain equally fascinated that having finally taken the website
from Diana and despite advice from many, Horse still cannot be bothered
to spend a few minutes updating it - even while discussions are going on
as to why the focus group has died and as if the main reason is not
obvious. That the owner of this website can find the time to construct
diatribes calling me a 'total twat' a 'liar' and full of 'lightweight
rubbish' seems to indicate his priorities lie elsewhere and tells more
about why this whole website is static as a stationary balloon which has
just been rubbed against a very woolly jumper than I could in a thousand
years.
