I AM NOT REALLY SURE WHAT "CULTURE-BEARER" IS ABOUT SO I DON'T KNOW IF IT
RELATES I GUESS I WAS HOPING YOU WOULD HELP ME WITH THAT. THE ONLY REASON I
SENSE A CONNECTION BECAUSE FOR A BOOK TO BEAR A CULTURE MEANS IT IS THE
RELATION BETWEEN THE BOOK AND THE CULTURE LIKE YOU WERE DESCRIBING.

I THINK PIRSIG IS SAYING THIS BECAUSE HE IS TALKING ABOUT HOW A BOOK CARRYS A
CULTURE- SO THE "BEARING" SEEMS TO INVOLVE THE BOOK AND THE CULTURE'S
RELATIONSHIP.

THAT MAY NOT BE A GOOD EXAMPLE BUT AREN'T THERE SOME THAT TAP INTO UNIVERSALS

I AM STILL CONFUSED ABOUT WHAT THIS CULTURE-BEARER STUFF IS ABOUT. FOR EXAMPLE
USING RICK'S EXAMPLE OF "ON THE ROAD". IT SEEMS THIS BOOK IS A CULTURE-BEARER
BOOK TO THE BEAT CULTURE WHICH MAY BE A PARTICULAR CULTURE BUT THAT PARTICULAR
CULTURE HAS SOME UNIVERSAL ASPECTS ABOUT IT SO WHY ARE WE LIMITING THAT BOOK
TO THAT CULTURE. I THINK THERE IS MEANING BETWEEN A BEATNIK READING "ON THE
ROAD" AND A NON-BEATNIK READING "ON THE ROAD".
I AM PROBABLY NOT MAKING SENSE BECAUSE I AM REALLY CONFUSED RIGHT NOW, I JUST
DON'T KNOW WHAT PIRSIG EXACTLY MEANS BY HIS CULTURE-BEARER EXPRESSION
