Dear Jonathan,

I hope you don't mind if I answer your question to Marco 'where
you would put a concept like selfless
awareness in your scheme of things': above the intellectual
level, on its way to found a 5th level.

See also my post to Andrea in the '3rd level blues' thread of
28/1 23:04 +0100. Wilber distinguishes
pre-rational, rational and transpersonal consciousness. I'd
associate pre-rational consciousness with the consciousness of
people in social patterns of values and little or no intellectual
patterns of values. Rational consciousness (including
ego/self-consciousness/awareness) is enabled by intellectual
patterns of values. Transpersonal consciousness (leaving behind
distinctions between subject/object, self/no-self etc.) is on its
way to non-dual awareness and direct continuous DQ experience. It
has no static latch yet however (that I know of at least).

With friendly greetings,

Wim
