Hi Platt,
ERIN: Okay let me use one of your examples because you do have point to a
degree.
It is funny but Hamlet has been labelled by some critics as "bipolar" and
Ophelia as "schizophrenic" It is this pull of opposistes (truth and beauty)
that leads to that but the "solution" is like you said transcend both to truth
beauty. This phrase is before the transcendence.
>PLATT: English (From HAMLET)
>To be or not to be. That is the question.
>Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
>The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
>Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
>And by opposing end them?
>
>PLATT: The impracticality of English Prime is illustrated in your own
thoughts,
>Erin, where you have frequently used "is" to express existence, identity
>and certainty.

ERIN: Yes it is very hard to switch to E Prime and even in the article
Wilson uses it and points it out so I didn't read it as to abolish E standard
but to start incorporating E prime. Actually I had thought about that earlier
reading
3WD post
> 3WD: When a structure has yielded, the same inertia becomes a condition of
>its compartive permanence in the new form, of the new habits [patterns
>of value] the body then manifests. 'Plasticity', then, in the wide sense
>of the word, means the possession of a structure weak enough [dynamic
>enough] to yield to an influence [an experience] but strong enough
>[stable or static enough] not to yield all at once. [thus failing,
>unlatching, and falling in value] Each relatively stable phase of
>equilibrium [dynamic +static] in such a structure is marked by what we
>may call a new set of habits. [new stable patterns of value]"
ERIN: so this plasticity gets at the idea of not completely yielding to E
prime all at once. I was never intending that.
PLATT>Be that as it may, I am beginning to come around to your truthbeauty
>idea where science and art transcend their SOM separateness and
>come together as one, perhaps in a fifth level. In the past the group has
>talked about the MOQ itself being the fifth level because it unites
>science and art under the rubric of Quality, or as you might put it,
>Quality/scienceart.

ERIN: it sounds good to me
