You wrote in your post of 4 Feb, "Religion ... can be defined as the
essentially human pursuit of re-experiencing DQ." As soon as you
mentioned "religion" I conjured up visions of my own religious
experiences--Sunday school, confirmation classes, "educational"
sermons, collection plates, alms pledges, etc. In other words, I jumped
immediately from "religion" to "church" and then connected many
church practices with profit-making religious movements like the
Moonies, Jonestown cults, Scientology, Jesus Freaks, etc., all claiming
to have direct access to DQ.

I apologize for jumping to the wrong conclusions. I agree with you that
"Religion as a whole has a good claim to being the field of human
activity that is most open . . . to DQ" with Art its main competitor. The
problem, at least for me, is that the word "religion" carries too much
negative baggage.
