Hi there,
This is fun but silly?
After all, 'Being alive than dead' presupposes that inorganic values are
'dead' when they may be alive in a sense not recognised categorically?
The cells that make up a Human kidney are better off together than alone and
yet they do not constitute a Human?
In that the cells of a Human kidney are together they constitute a society?
So, what makes intellect markedly different from society?
I should say that intellect imitates behaviour?
In a social conglomerate, behaviour has value, and to behave well is most
valued?
The more sophisticated the behaviour, the higher the value?
That is why i suggested imitation as a, 'Betterness' because those who can
imitate the prevailing best behaviours become intellectuals?
This may be a lesson learned from memetics?
All the best,
Squonk.

Hey Marco
MARCO:
1. Better something than nothing.
2. Better alive than dead.
3. Better together than alone.
RICK:
I really like these three 'guidelines'. However, so far, I haven't heard a
4th that I believe captures the Intellectual/Social line with the same
insight and ease....
JONATHAN - 4(a) Better beauty than ugliness. 4(b) Better understanding than
ignorance. 4(c) Better compassion than indifference.
SQUONK - Better imitating, creatively.
PLATT - Better thinking than feeling.
DMB - Rights are better than "the law".
MARCO - Individual is better than the mass. (Individuality is not
individualism. It is not in opposition to cooperation, compassion,
socialization.)
RICK:
I would propose something like "Better to learn from experience than
custom."
How's that for you?
rick
PS
Better order over chaos,
Better freedom over order.
