ROG-- I find the extreme right and the extreme left both as leading directly
to disaster. Both views scare the hell out of me. IMO, every successful modern
society has found balance somewhere between the extremes and they have
invariably used the extremes to control and offset each other. Madison had it
right from day one!
ERIN: I agree that it shouldn't go to extremes but it is hard to tell if they
are really balancing each other or we just keep swinging from one extreme to
the other with each election. Sometimes I wonder if extremes would be as big
of a problem if we had more than two "serious" parties. It just seems like if
there were more choices then Tweedledumb and Tweedledumber to choose from we
focus on the indivudal issues and ideas the politicians offer and less on what
party the idea is coming from.
