Hi Bo, Rick, erin, all

A few things first....

I will never be offended to be reminded of my own ignorance, so please say
what you feel whenever I oversimplfy an argument or simply annoy you, it's
one of the things I do best.

I really do like the way everybody dissects and analyses everything everyone
says, and I'm not being sarcastic....

it really does make you think about whay you are saying, and how you are
saying it!!!

I'm starting to feel that the english language is such an inaccurate way of
communicating ideas, as it is too open to interpretation... no wonder that
science and mathematics, in which fields the terms have very specific
definitions, are for me at least easier to comprehend.

My idea though is that our own five senses evolved to help us distinguish
between low and high quality events, pain hurts because it is our bodies way
of saying we are in a low quality situation, our body is damaged and we need
to be aware of this!! and if we can repair the damage, then the pain will go
away.
So what I'm trying to say is that our 5 senses evolved in us as in other
organisms, as a way for us to avoid the low quality situations, that
threaten our existence, and guide us toward the high quality situations that
promote our chances of survival.

So evolution as a concept can now be changed from the accepted survival of
the fittest, to " survival of those organisms best adapted to seeking high
quality situations ".

I know this is going to cause a few raised eyebrows, but I tend to think as
I write, or vice versa

it's all good

Rod

PS Bo

I'm not sure what you mean by a "strictly biological organism", but I guess
you mean that organisms which are not self aware cannot feel pain.. I've
always believed this, but the whole of the animal rights movement, seems to
be contrary to this.
