I think you are right the mixing of religion and philosophy in anything
other than the most cursory of ways (ie same department but totally
isolated fields of study) is a big no-no to academia. I remember asking
a friend of mine who is a university professor of psychology is he was
familiar with Wilber's "Integral Psychology". After he responded no, I
proceeded to give him a summary only to watch him get visibly more and
more agitated. He finally interrupted and said, " That's not psychology,
that's religion. The two have nothing to do with each other." End of
conversation, he walked off.
