Bodvar: Thanks for the kind words. Here are just a few words in reply...

 Your "cultural derivation" argument
sounded like a refutation of my SOL-interpretation, but as soon as I
got my bearings I saw that it affirmed a hunch of mine.
Look: LILA points to an alliance between Intellect and Biology (the
egg-heads and the criminals) to fight Society. I think it's a rule that
the upper level seeks support from the one below its parent level
and that this is what you demonstrate by returning so strongly to
the social level. The ally of something that wants to undermine
Intellect is Society.

DMB...
As Marco pointed out, the alliance between biology and intellect is not a
rule, but the violation of a Pirsigian rule and that violation resulted in
disaster. I returned to the social level mythos only to show the richness of
intellect's parent. I wanted to show you that both SOM and the MOQ cvould be
derived from it. I hoped to show its connection to the present historical
moment, its connection to the rise of the intellect. Biology simply wasn't
part of the discussion.

Bo...
You are right in so doing, but we need to look at the QM as
something beyond intellect to free Pirsig from the neo-fascist
accusations that followed LILA. Seen as a pattern that struggles
with SOM for control of the intellectual level makes him one - even
seen from his own system - that the LILA reviewers didn't have an
inkling is another matter. More about this masterpiece later.

DMB...
The MOQ is an intellectual description and some of what is describes is
beyond the intellect, but the description itself can't go past the
intellectual level. There are no such things as descriptions beyond the
intellect. Its just not possible. And I think the best way to "free Pirsig
from the neo-fascist accusations" is to hammer Pirsig's neo-fascist fans
without mercy. I'm doing my best to pounce on reactionary attitudes whenever
I can. This unpleasant task seems only right and fair insofar as Pirsig is
clearly anti-fascist himself. Also I think advocating one intellectual
system over another, as Pirsig does, can never be rightly construed as any
kind of fascism, which is a creature of the social level.
