Hi All

this seems to be a very personal question for everyone, our own moral
beliefs come to the fore, for me the notion of a death penalty is abhorrent,
not because it is the end of a source of ideas, but I simply don't believe
in the "eye for an eye", kind of reaction, neither am I some kind of liberal
who believes that we should not punish those who have committed crimes.

I would rather see a loss of liberty, or even like Phaedrus a loss of self.

One thing which has always confused me or at least strikes me as being
hugely hypocritical, is that those religions/individuals who believe in the
afterlife, seem to be the ones most vehemently condoning the death penalty,
why???... surely if they believe we are eternal, and there is a heaven, why
should murder be seen as anything other than "helping" someone into the next
level of life, it's a ridiculous situation, you can't believe in heaven and
then say you should die because you have sent someone to heaven......

Obviously I don't believe in an afterlife
