Heya
Maybe CONTAIN is a better word then COMPOSE? Like four containers of
increasing size. This mental picture helps me think of it as separate but
still "composed" of lower containers.
If the intellectual level transcends and includes the lower level it seems
like it is at least partly composed of it in the sense that it includes it.
Since the very idea of a container is that of creating a barrier between that
which is inside and that which is outside, whatever is put inside the
container, is subjected to it's properties and thus limited it's boundaries.
"Other creatures learn primarily from their own experience of life. Human
beings could begin to share experiences and so learn not only from their own
lives but also from others'. Not only did our ability to learn from each other
enhance our individual lives, it also led us into the whole new arena of group
evolution. We had become a collective learning system, building a collective
body of knowledge that far exceeded the experience of any individual, but
which any individual could, in principle access. "
