I agree with Platt here about what Pirsig thinks. But let's be clear and
say even more specifically that it is *scientific* intellect that is SOM, and *this* is what Pirsig thinks messed up society, not intellectual moral patterns like freedom of speech and such. Concerning morality, I'd say
Pirsig is more critical overall of the intellectual level than of the social level; which is odd, considering the intellectual level is
supposed to be the more moral of the two. And yes, Ch. 24 is where it's
at.
