Re: MD israel, palestine and the US

It seems odd that for all these endeavors into intellectual masturbation,
there are numerous sources to cite, books read and re-read, quotations
repeated to insipidity, but when we talk about political/human rights
issues, no one cites a word. People argue based on what they might have
caught on CNN or other American media sources. But it is this very biased
media which has internalized double-think firmly into its viewers, believing
they know exactly what they need to hear. As a scholar recently remarked at
a lecture, "I have doubted God countless times in my life. But I wonder how
come I have never doubted Peter Jennings." I would encourage everyone to
seek out alternative sources on this matter, such as newspapers from the
region, both Israeli and Palestinian (the Ha'aretz is one I know of),
familiarize yourself with the efforts of human rights group such as B'tselem,
and, as Gav suggested, think about the substance behind the many protests,
especially why thousands of Europeans who most likely do not have direct ties
to the region would choose to protest Israeli occupation. If nothing else it
will help bring about a more balanced stance on the issue instead of buying
into this chest-thumping, my-country-right-or-wrong, us vs. them ideology.
