RE: MD Chomsky

Good morning,

Well, I wouldn't call Chomsky 'unbiased.' But that need not mean he is
'untruthful.' His critique of US policies in Viet Nam -- though it came
late for some of us -- was astute and provocative. It was, in other words,
valuable. I am not a great fan of Chomsky's (except in the area of
linguistics, where he has made some excellent contributions (Universal
Grammar, etc.), but quite a few serious people I know seem to be, so I
wouldn't dismiss him.

I'm not sure if any of the statements made by folks on this list are
'unbiased,' -- and would not claim that mine are. That is why we call it a
discussion list, and why we have such stimulating and passionate debate. But
I do believe that that some views are more informed, better reasoned, and
better expressed than others. So, the question should be: are Chomsky's
views informed, reasoned, and well expressed?

Any of our views can have statements here and there lifted by some
disreputable group or another with an ax to grind, and tarred by
association. This is true of mine and it is true of yours, Platt. But is it
useful or fair to do so?

I am not knowledgeable about Chomsky and Faurisson or the Holocaust. To your
knowledge, are the quotes you cite, Platt, accurate? Or are you simply
trusting the web-site of the British Fascist Party to render quotes and
statements of 'facts' concerning others accurately?

Best regards,
Lawry
