Take care Platt,

this article I'm going to translate (just some excerpts) is from the site of "Forza Nuova", a famous neo-fascist Italian group.

(if someone is interested to the original Italian text: http://www.forzanuova.org/articolod.htm )

The title of the article is "Art for Strong People"

Analysing the current situation of literature:

« Bookshelves are full of neo-existentialist books, written by authors who had suffered a lot; televisions broadcast continuously stories of "poor freaks"; handicap is "a-la-page" and pervades everything, so that seemingly normal people are a minority. And we see these normal losers, without an own original culture, full of tattoos and piercing, trying all the possible experiences life can offer; all equal with their no-limits sports, their homosexuality practiced as hobby..... »

The article goes on a bit lamenting this degenerated world and then asks:

« Is there a poetry for strong people? Surely once existed... In the classic world, the Homeric hero pursued an ideal of beauty and excellence, "Kalos kagathos" (beautiful and good), or, as the Romans used to say, “mens sana in corpore sano” .... »

Among the modern examples of this possible poetry for strong, tough people, there is this interesting suggestion:

« One possible idea has been offered by Robert Pirsig in his "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance", in which he supports a sort of "Total Quality", restoring the classic concept of art and of the homeric “living good”..... »

As you see, even Pirsig has been taken as example by fascists. Now you can draw your own conclusion.

Ciao,
Marco

p.s.
Please note I stumbled across that site few months ago searching for “Pirsig” and "Art" on the Italian version of Google.
