Thanks for a fine post. Your emphasis on primary experience is IMO
exactly right. But metaphysics, like many degenerate activities, is fun. It
may distance us from immediate experience, but thought (necessary to
our survival so we can meditate) has a built in tendency to distract us
in many ways, not all bad.

You might be interested in a review in this Sunday's NY Times of a
book titled "A Pelican in the Wilderness. Meditations on Extreme
Solitude" by Isabel Colegate. This is not to say that I think you plan to
become a hermit. Simply, you may find the article engaging, and
perhaps the book itself.
