Magnus,

Technically Descartes goes on to prove the exsistance of God and the
physical world as we understand it. Few accept anything beyond the cogito
ergo sum (i think therefore i am) statement. Descartes stuck his head out
and got it chopped back to the neck. also, The cogito ergo sum statement
has been contested as well. I think therefore I am, well as long as you
use a first person verb than you can prove your exsistance, I play soccer
therefore i am, sounds logical to me. He plays soccer therefore he is,
yea, works for me. As long as one postulates An I, then the I exsists.
Exsistance of sentiance therfore I exsist as an individual detached from
other things? Um, i dont think that sounds as air tight as descartes
wanted it to.

I agree that nothing can be proven absolutely (possibly because the nature
of the universe exsists beyond words and structures of logic, but who
knows). We need to make an assumption, Therefore i assume empiricism to be
valid. I know only my experience (by definition), so i cannot postulate
about others perception of the stars, or of the actual exsistance of the
stars. Thus using only my perception as a guide, i have to conclude
fundementally that the study of metaphysics is the study of how i percieve
the world, not the world itself. But usefulness is important, or rather,
the only real guide we have to truth along with aesthetics.
and i accept the post modern condition, i support my ideas wildly while
accepting others as theirs (but its fun to discuss them).

Conclusion: we are in agreement
