Dear Platt and Scott,
At the risk of mistakes because of not reading later postings:
Platt rephrased Scott 3/5 12:27 -0400 in an unsurpassable way with 'the
collective' is 'a purely fictitious think-burger'.
I may suprise you both by agreeing wholeheartedly!
Just a little question: Isn't 'the individual' 'a purely fictitious
think-burger' too? The whole intellectual level even?
'I', my experience of being a consistent, coherent, recognizable,
distinguishable, individual, is an abstraction from observable, patterned
behavior. None of the patterns of which my behavior is a part is unique for
me even if their combination is.
'Seeing' 'collectives' and/or 'individuals' in the behavior of a number of
representatives of homo sapiens are both 'think-burgers'.
With friendly greetings,
Wim
