i think that you have placed the intellectual/social barrier well.
it seems that the barrier is an *existential* one. that is one is moral to
the extent that one is acting upon their own ideas (intellect) and unique
desires (Dq), especially when opposed by other lower level impulses.
nietzsche's 'ubermensch' and the 'authentic'life of sartre are analogous to
this it seems to me. the great thing about pirsig and the MOQ is that it
solves the existential problems of nihilism and absurdity, reinforcing the
need for and appeal of a free and responsible existence.
