And elliot replies:
oh the idle rich. they dont work because they have enough things to occupy
themselves through something other than socially productive work, this
situation couldn't possibly exsist in the society in question. Who would
help someone build a 42 acre mansion when they themselves live in a much
humbler home, who would give them all the excess the rich require to be rich
if the rich have nothing in return to give (money, mind you, does no longer
exsist).
Dreamers are important to society. where would we be without those who
really could just sit down and dream up revolutionary ideas. Newton sat
locked in his room for several months to develope calculus and his laws of
motion, hell, i wouldnt want to do that but im glad someone does. not
everyone needs to be producing material goods because technology makes each
man much more productive.
And peace of mind? I'm refering to Pirsigs talks in ZAMM about achieving
peace of mind while working on a motor cycle or building a barbeque pit (i
dont have my copy right here or id give you the pages, when the narrator
meets his friend in montana). Buddhists say we do loose our peace of mind
and must stive every moment to keep it, reachieve it. You really think
everyone is contented all the time, that no one lacks peace of mind?
