Hi Erin, Platt & all. I'm responding to a post dated 6/21/02 from Platt.

Gary's response: I agree. "Consciousess-like activites....not something
magically emerges..." This is why Wilber's books (A brief History of
Everything or Sex, Ecology, Evolution) are so important. 'Conscious-like' &
'experience' are attributes of all things on all levels. All things have
the Interior aspect of reacting to their environment. It is not 'magic'
but it is and does emerge from the Quality based structure of their
inorganic and organic matter. The level of Intellect of Pirsig is the
Internal level of Humans. All things, under Wilber's system has an Internal
level/aspect/nature. The level of Intellect emerges out of the physical
structure of our biology. But that level can not be reduced to merely and
solely the aspects & workings of the External nature of our biology alone.
Bye,
Gary
