SOM is culturally derived.
SOM is mesmerised into us from our cultural background.
To this extent, culture begins with US AS MEMES. (Or more precisely
memeplexes.)
WE ARE MEMES and this is ONE level: culture or static social patterns of
value.
SOM evolved from culture by organising memes into METHODS: the methods are
what memes are motivated to do while memes are what culture IS.
Of course, once method proliferates, it influences culture in profound ways:
think of John Lockes philosophical influence upon American democracy for
example? If one changes the philosophical assumptions below democracy then
you get another, 'Flavour' of democracy as is found in South American Spanish
culture.
Memes are static patterns of social value. They are equal but in name.
We replace SOM science terms with equivalent MOQ terms.
The underlying philosophy changes but the data remains the same.
Memes ARE static social patterns of value.
Our 'minds' are but huge wells of memes and our ability to mediate and
manipulate them is INTELLECT. Note: Intellect is an ability, or capability of
discovering quality relationships between static patterns of social value,
(memes) and may be described therefore as a METHOD. That's the essence of the
divide between society and intellect.
Imagine a pallet of colours suddenly painting themselves? That's what
Intellect does: it USES other memes for its own purposes.
In the eyes of value free science this is a resistance to be overcome and the
aesthetic material with which the breach may be made may be in the area of
culture/society? MEMES!
See how we magically replace memes with patterns of value and the underlying
philosophy changes while the data remains the same?
SOM has opened up science but science is still culture.
Its what we DO with science that marks the intelligence of our project and we
may find it useful to develop a science of culture and intellect based upon a
value centred metaphysics that have biological and inorganic counterparts?
I do not feel intellect is restricted to using one method; if you give it one
method then you cannot deal effectively with the Intelligence of a Dickens or
a Shakespeare, an African Griot or a Mozart.
