Re: MD SubconsciousDear Lawrence,

What's the use of
- dividing our intellectual representations of 'ourselves' in different
parts wanting different things
compared to
- a representation just recognizing one 'self' wanting different things
or to
- a representation with just static patterns of values we identify with (no
fixed subject, no entity called 'self'), that are both dynamic (changing
towards perceived 'better') and determined by the static quality of their
stability to stay recognizably the same?
In the third representation 'wants' are just 'options' and 'wanting' 'the
intellectual way of perceiving/evaluating better'.

You want to distinguish different parts because you can then 'deal with' how
they interact with each other?
Wouldn't it be more healthy to keep yourself busy with digging holes in
order to fill them up again? Gives you some fresh air for a change of your
'real work'...

With friendly greetings,

Wim

At a minimum, it is useful for some purposes for us to see ourselves as a
collection of 'parts', each 'responsible' for different functions. This is
of course just a metaphor, a representation of the reality. Why useful?
Because we can then deal with these different parts and how they interact
with the rest of us. For example: there is a 'part' of me that wants to
write this email, and part that wants do get back to my real work, and yet
another part that wants to go play. Oh yes, and there is that darn fourth
part that wants some more _hot_ tea. Well, I can't do it all right now. I
continue writing this. Why? It is the resultant of all these parts arguing
with each other. OK, it is stormy, so I'll play later -- promise. OK, I'll
make this brief, so I can get back to my real work quickly. Tea? Well, by
gum, this is your fourth mug today and it is still mid-morning in my time
zone. Oh, OK, I guess I am really cold, not thirsty. So the tea 'part' opts
for a sweater. View, all 'parts' happy? Yeah! Uh-huh. OK, here. Yup, I'm
cool with that. I mean, warm.

Cheers,
Lawry, the container for all of his parts, and those who showed up
Tea
Play
Real Work
