Re: MD SubconsciousAt a minimum, it is useful for some purposes for us to
see ourselves as a collection of 'parts', each 'responsible' for different
functions. This is of course just a metaphor, a representation of the
reality. Why useful? Because we can then deal with these different parts
and how they interact with the rest of us. For example: there is a 'part'
of me that wants to write this email, and part that wants do get back to my
real work, and yet another part that wants to go play. Oh yes, and there is
that darn fourth part that wants some more _hot_ tea. Well, I can't do it
all right now. I continue writing this. Why? It is the resultant of all
these parts arguing with each other. OK, it is stormy, so I'll play later --
promise. OK, I'll make this brief, so I can get back to my real work
quickly. Tea? Well, by gum, this is your fourth mug today and it is still
mid-morning in my time zone. Oh, OK, I guess I am really cold, not thirsty.
So the tea 'part' opts for a sweater. View, all 'parts' happy? Yeah!
Uh-huh. OK, here. Yup, I'm cool with that. I mean, warm.
Cheers,
Lawry, the container for all of his parts, and those who showed up

Dear Wim et al
I really don't see what is wrong with accepting the idea that we are
individuals made up of parts.....
It doesn't worry me that I have an unconscious mind, a subconscious mind
and a conscious one... it's just the way we have evolved, the unconscious
mind has been reacting to DQ long before we made the leap to consciousness.
As previously stated I have reorganised my thoughts to include the
unconscious mind which is common to all humanity, leaving the subconscious
to be individual to each of us, formed out of our own experiences.
As for your question " Where does the 'separate, conscious part of your
being' go when you are
asleep?!? " , it doesn't go anywhere it is a part of you, where could it
go to? I always had assumed that sleep was necessary in part to rest the
conscious mind as well as the body.
And I'm sorry to say I can't accept the analogy of a dark room with a
candle in it, I think of my conscious mind as a projection from within both
the unconscious and subconscious, almost like a coral polyp coming out the
when I awake and retreating back to the safety of its home, when I sleep.
Cheers
Rod
