Rog,
to intervene or not to intervene, that is the question. Well I would say
that it is quite obvious that Iraq is now suffering from a low quality
pattern, a few questions arise:
What would happen if saddam is to put it bluntly 'eliminated' in Iraq (from
a domestic perspective?)(Is there a chance of high(er)quality pattern such
as a democracy?)
I would say, and I know about Iraq(a little outside Iraq), NO, there is not
yet a strong democratic movement in Iraq, neccesarry for the improvement
towards higher quality patterns. The static patterns cannot be destroyed by
DQ bomb, it would not change for the better.
Second question:
What would happen if Saddam is 'eliminated' to the stability of the whole
middle east?
Would Iraq aim de Scuds at Israel again? Would he use biological weapons
against Israel and if so, would a group like hezzbollah take advantage of an
attack on Israel which would lead to....and so on and so on. There are so
many uncertainties, for instance what would it mean for the oil production?
How are other Arab nations going to respond, nations like Syria, Libanon, it
is not just saddam under attack.
I could go on and on but I think the best thing to do is leave it, the only
legitimate intervention would be reactive not proactive I reckon. Maybe a
suggestion is; wait until the mustage dies and try to keep a sustainable
relation to the democratic movement seated in England now I believe.
