I think you are confusing persuasion with
repression. About the self-censorship point it would be
valid if I allowed a repressive climate to repress. I was describing
the general "climate" in America sort of
switched from liberal vs conservative
to a "climate" of patriotism vs unpatriotic.
It was this climate that I found repressive.
