Hey,
Some of the posts in this thread seem to imply that Pirsig decided not sell
the rights to his book. But I have been under the impression that Redford
did acquire the rights to ZMM and is still planning to (try to) make it a
movie. I think I got this impression from AP pieces like the following....

"According to the Daily Variety, issue date Jan 25, 1999....in an article
pertaining to Mr. R. when he was asked what his future projects are, well
this is what was wrote on the subject: "As for future film projects, he is
noncommittal, allowing only that his list of top-priority projects remain
the same: "The Legend of Bagger Vance," "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle,"
"Time and Again," and "George Washington." Then the next paragraph says
this: "He has however, begun work on a project about big business which was
originally meant to be the final part of a trilogy that started with
"Downhill Racer" and "Candidate." At the time, he couldn't get a script he
felt was good." Surprisingly the movie we thought was next called "Spy Game"
was not at all mentioned by him."

Does anybody know for sure that Pirsig DIDN'T eventually decide to sell the
rights?

just wondering
