Sq: Dear Matt,
I fear your love affair with Rorty is leading you down the garden path?

Squonk, John,

Actually, now that I think about it, reality is prior to language.

Sq: Experience is prior to language - undifferentiated experience of quality.
Oh dear, you make me feel so sad Matt.
This forum is a playground: Bo turns Pirsigian rhetoric into a patronising
facsimile of the original; goes one further with his holes and
interpretations; diminishing and devaluing. John B authoritatively selects
passages from various tombs in the same fashion as Wilber, but in John's
world Wilber IS one of those he selects - round and round. A playground of
bullies and wannabe's.

However, after stating the simple, common sense notion that trees and rocks
and people are around prior to our birth and learning of language, I don't
think we need to follow with the claim that language is a mediator between
us and reality.

Matt

Sq: And to think that once upon a time you had sense?
Us?
Reality?
Mediation?
Do you really feel you are separate from experience?
And have you ever felt experience to be an aesthetic continuum?

I wonder what Rorty would make of Cuban culture, were music, religion and
identity are all one? A music that cannot be notated; skin on skin. Gods
coming down to select and define you. Group euphoria and celebration, close
to Quality.

All the best,
Squonk.
