RE: MD Integration of minorities in dutch society

Davor and all:

[David Buchanan] Pluralistic and multi-cultural nations can hardly
function without intellectual guidence. Your questions and comments point to
this. If the rural people in Dutch society had their way, the Islamic
immigrants would likely be sent home. This is just a matter of one set of
social patterns in conflict with a different set of social level patterns.
This is the stuff that colonialism, war and genocide are made of.
Intellectual values, on the other hand, can ensure that several different
set of social and cultural values can all co-exist through the existence of
rights and other prohibitions against prejudice, bigotry and supremacy.
(This is yet another clue as to the nature of reactionary and conservative
ideologies, which tend to mistrust and even despise ideals like pluralism
and multi-culturalism.) The only "correction" I'd suggests is that
biological value patterns don't enter into this issue.

        Thanks,
