Oh yes I completely agree that ALL people have
quality/value. I think Platt's proposal that
this is some 'noble wish' completely wrong.
No doubt at all here about THAT.
According to the MOQ everything that exists
has value (I don't think there is anything written by
Pirsig that supports his claim).
About your claim that judgements are an act of violence I think
this is where the semantics problems comes in.
I would only say certain types of judgements are
violent. Simple perception and functioning involve judgements but I don't
consider them violent.
But the judgment that somebody has not quality---yeah
that is wrong and definitely could see how that would
be at the root of violence.
Soldiers have to dehumanize their targets in their mind to kill them.
(e.g. think of a person as a 'germ' violence is not only seen as necessary but
it is good.)
But I can see how making judgments can be nonviolent, necessary, and not only
function but also helps you seek quality.
