to the squad:
when deep in zazen, it is possible to tap a primal reservoir where our animal consciousness resides.
could this be analogous to an animal reality? these are some of my observations from familiarizing myself with this inner presence:
the animal is conscious of itself but its concept of others or separateness from the rest is not "thought" out but instead sensed. it relies entirely on sensations. it feels the wetness of the rain but doesn't know what rain is. it feels the pangs of hunger and satiates it when it eats...although, it may not differentiate what it is eating.
it knows the difference between wet and dry, between hunger and satiety, but not between good and evil.
this animal consciousness has a feral feel to it. it is definitely on the other side of the qsocial dividing line.
now, i will pose a problem...i have watched a lizard in my yard get wet when i've been watering the lawn. and i have thought: does the lizard know this "rain" is artificially induced? can he tell the difference between real rain and my watering? by extension, how do we know if there is free will or determinism...maybe there is a bit of both. maybe sometimes someone is watering the lawn and is getting one wet whereas, other times there is a natural rain.
hey! i know im taking a risk here by talking about wet lizards but is it any stranger than talking about squirrels circling a tree?
