Hi Squad, Fintan
I'm a relatively new member of this group and I haven't poseted often.
This is due to the fact that my current schedule is exhausting and I
barely have time to read the influx of LILA squad mail much less think
about and then write something reasonably intelligent in response.
Nevertheless, I find it necessary to respond to the works of Fintan,
which from my perspective at least, have come to dominate the group of
late.
Fintan, let me draw what I hope is a symbolic parallel between a large
part of my own life right now and your MoM. I am the
singer/songwriter/guitarist/lyrisct in a "grunge" band named
Noisefaucet. Our music is exceedinly loud, the lyrics direct and
abrasive, and the vocals have recently been described as "shrieking on
key." During shows, the band members tend to "go crazy" jumping around,
playing their insturments violently, etc., (we are slightly more tame
now as last week our bassist broke an ankle jumping of an amp...) in
other words, I like to think of us as the mussical embodiment of
passion. We have a dynamic aspect to our performances, sometimes
breaking into more or less spontaneous renditions of old Beatles songs,
America's national anthem, or, once, Silent Night, regardless of whether
every member knows the song or not. Maybe most importantly, I am
disgusted with modern music as it exists today. Well enough, hopefully
some of this sounds familar.
Here's the point: we have never proclaimed ourselves THE SAVIORS OF
MUSIC AND CREAITVE EXPRESSION. When people walk out of shows, (I have
personally cleared a room or two in my time) persumably put off by our
rendiiton of passionate exisence, I don't call them cynics, I don't
presume that they are "part of the problem", and I don't condemn them
and I don't declare that their lack of appreciaiton and early exit means
that they want to "be left alone" -- presumably being less in tune with
our perfect or at least superior inerpretation with musical reality.
Do you see my point? You have proclaimed yourself a near Saint, a
prophet whose words will lead us away from the evils of this age, (much
of which incidently have to due with senseless killings concerning
dispues about the Christian doctrines you are fond of), and have likened
your "discovery" to the second coming of Jesus Christ. Well, silence
connotes atcceptance and yet itf someone speaks outt against whatever it
is you're saying, you conclude that this is merely affirmation of the
validity of your "thesis." Should we conclude that you simply will not
tolerate dissention or challenges to your ideas, or that you think same
are completely invalid, as there is no way your "vision" isn't THE WAY?
Fintan, your rantings don't "get up my nose," mainly because they are
unitelligible. While I'm sure this is a condition you find desireable,
dispising as you do the intellect, it doesn't always make for a very
good post. And while I understand it is possible to convey meaning in
other ways and through other means, the fact that you are using language
means you are appealing to the intellect. Even symbolic language
appeals to the part of the intellect that functions abstractly.
I don't mean this to be contemptuous or insulting, but in the last week
or so you have a posted a variety of seemingly misjointed "Jungian
symbols" declared it THE WAY and appoined yourself the guardian of the
orthodoxy of what is essentially a collection of poorly expressed
thoughts. You have since gone on to imply that those who don't the same
value in your thoughts as you do are people who are first, wrong and
second, do not wish "TO BE." That kind of rigidity doesn'tt sound very
dynamic to me and it doesn' make for a very good metaphysics, regardless
of what the underlying ideas may be.
Yours in haste,
Kilian
