Glove:

I agree. We could also say that ANY theory must start with experience, or
value.

Glove:

Actually, I might put it the other way around..."objects" are remembered
experiences, "we" are the subject of analogous experiences, and experience
is all. Static patterns are experience. We could also insert the word
"sobject" in place of both "subject" and "object" and make them
interchangable.

Glove:

To me, sound is experience without division. Since the Metaphysics of
Quality does not subscribe to the subject/object dichotomy, sound is a
static quality pattern of value, most certainly an inorganic pattern of
value. For sound to be of value as an inorganic pattern of value to an
observer, the biological level must become aware of the sound in some
fashion. The sound may be startling and cause a person to involuntarily jump
at first, then the social and intellect levels take over, sorting and
categorizing the sound. Now there is a perceived division in the sound. If
the sound is not experienced in the first place, there is no perceived value
to it, and no division between "it" and the rest of non-experience.

Glove:

Thank you for your imput Roger as I value it highly too. I think we all
approach Quality in a slightly different fashion depending upon our
individual life experiences. And I do agree that Good dialogue sure beats a
monologue any day.

Glove:

I also have the teal copy along with the old hard cover version which I
bought for a buck at the used book store, just in case someone should ask to
borrow it. I couldnt loan out my paperback version as its like your old
purple one, full of highlighted text and underlined passages. I would be
lost without it!

Best wishes
