ROGER THINKS RICH"S EXAMPLE STINKS
Rich,
Actually most of your questions refer to quotes of Platt, so I will let him
respond. However, here is the answer to the riddle that you asked and that
Platt and I referenced . You wrote:
<<And a page later is this quote which I'm STILL not sure if I
understand:
"...all schools are right on the mind-matter question. Mind is
contained in static inorganic patterns. Matter is contained in static
intellectual patterns. Both mind and matter are completely separate
evolutionary levels of static patterns of value, and as such are
capable of each containing the other without contradiction."
My question is:
What exactly does Pirsig mean by "CONTAINED"???
>>
Maggie asked the same Q in Febr. My response follows:
I find this as one of his most illuminating statements. Mind is connected to
the inorganic patterns that form our brain, and what we call matter is an
intellectual pattern. All is intellectual, yet all is materialistic.
Does this clarify for you? Do you agree with my definition? Another great
Lila quote is:
"...there is no substance anywhere in the world nor has there ever been."
IMHO (in my humble opinion) thiese statements are related, as are the ones on
gravity that Glove introduced a week or so ago....
ROGER
PS Your interrelatedness of flatulence was accurate, but exceptions don't
make the rule. The levels can interact and frequently do. But they also
frequently ignore each other.......Sorry for anthropomorphosizing the
levels.......
PSS Sorry Horse, but this forum is a lot more fun than the LS but I promise
to quit lurking if you won't bounce my posts (Do others get bounced, or has
it just been me?)
