All !

I think we are confusing biological levels with intellectual, and moreover
the discussions sometimes seems to go in to all of the traditional
philosophical traps that MOQ are supposed to go around.

When I read a other philosophy (other than Pirsig) I add the concept of
quality and then ( to me ) it almost always clear things up.

Regarding abortion, a fetus is purely biological it has very little of
perceptions ( DQ ) and no conceptions at all ( SQ ). When the fetus develops
it acquire static pattern ( Concepts ) and develop it's perceptional system.
At some time after birth we come to regard this baby as a person. A person
has memories of the past and expectations of a future. A persons life has
higher value than a non person, this actually makes it ok to kill non
persons, for example a new born with so severe damages that it is impossible
to imagine that this baby could become a person. Actually according to this
reasoning Apes, Dogs, Cows and most mammals are, at least to a degree,
persons and killing them would not be right !!

The fact that a living being contains human DNA does not make it a person
but just a biological being it is when that biological being develops social
and intellectual patterns that it becomes a person (apes and dogs are social
animals) I don't think that it is a good idea to rank different beings on
some sort of scale according to level of their intellect it is better to
regard all 'persons' as beings that has the right to live.

I apologies for poor English,

Best regards to all,

Anders
