Just a brief post after reading your taboo consideration.
About 15 years ago I saw in a TV show the famous Italian writer Alberto
Moravia. The anchor man asked him something about violence and war.
He said that a lot of sexual activities like incest were normal in
prehistoric age, and society created taboos to limit all them. So if we want
to stop wars we must create the taboo of violence.
I thought he was just an old idealist (and also a little perverted...). Now
I think he was right. A good chance we have to end violence is to create new
taboos to limit all bad social instincts.
Is taboo the only possible chance?
