[David Buchanan] I had an Randy period in my youth too. I think
it was my 19th summer. In any case, Platt is on to something. Even the
name of her philosophy, Objectivism, seems to contradict Pirsig's MOQ. I
recently read a quote of hers on the web somewhere. She says "There is
no society, only individuals." which is SOM's mind-matter paradox
dressed up as political propaganda. She certainly is a notable figure.
Her "Atlas Shrugged" is second only to the bible as the favorite and
most influential in the U.S. She has also been designated "The Worst
Novelist of All Time". Guess its a love/hate thing.
Its been nearly twenty years now, but it seems to me that Rand
and Pirsig are light years apart.
