You may be right. But, every Moral Argument for the Existence of God I
know of uses morality at the social level (how we ought to behave
towards one another) to make its point. None of the arguments to my
knowledge conceives of or extends morality to, say, a cockroach, and
call it a "biological pattern of moral values." Maybe some God believers
or philosophers would agree with that, but none have ever come right
and claimed it before Pirsig--as far as I'm aware.
If you know of anyone who has written about four levels of static moral
patterns and a Dynamic morality, please forward his name with
evidentiary quotations. Or how about just someone besides Pirsig who
has said something like " . . . the world is composed of nothing but
moral values" and made a complete metaphysics out of that
proposition. Of philosophers of note, only Schopenhauer can be said to
be in Pirsig's orbit IMO.
But I could be wrong.
