That's what I thought, but I wanted to check.
When I wrote 'Thanks for taking a shot at "linear causality"', "linear
causality" happened to be a quote of something I said, but I quoted
it not because I felt a need to quote myself, I quoted it because I
wanted to stress the two words together, as the object of discourse.
The phrase was coined by me but the words came from your description.
This is not a misuse of quotes; it comes up often during philosophical discourse and literary analysis. You will have to trust me on this, but
the upshot is that you are mistaken that it is a scare quote or a sneer
quote. I don't blame you for making the mistake. However, you could be
just as mistaken by Pirsig's "possession by the Devil" quote. You think
the meaning of the quotes is obvious but I think their meaning is
ambiguous.

I made Pirsig sound silly when I said a conclusion of the MOQ is
that the devil walks the earth in human form. It's an open question
in my mind whether Pirsig believes in the devil in some sense.
