    Excellent post Matt. You clearly articulated something which has been
    troubling me for ages, and on which I've posted before. However, I won't go
    into any detailed comments on your post just yet, because I want to agree a
    foundation with David first (ie what Pirsig's view is), before going into a
    critique. For the sake of argument I think we should take Lila as normative
    for representing Pirsig's more mature conception.
