Part II.
193 "Quality is nature. The MOQ says there is no spiritual principle in man
that makes knowledge possible. Nature does the whole job."
Knowledge is an aesthetic appreciation of the 'sweet spot' (coherence)
between sq-sq patterns at the intellectual level. If the DQ-sq metaphysical
division
may be used to describe nature then it may be found useful to employ optimum
states as sources of harmony.
Mark 1-8-04: It is clear that CA193 is relevant to dmb's, "thoughts on
religion and spirituality in general." The context is epistemic: the MOQ does not
require a theistic cause for knowledge. In addition, harmony and elegance are
indications for the intellectual Quality of a theory. Harmony and elegance are
aesthetic terms associated with coherence. Therefore, coherence is an
additional non-theistic explanation of the character of enquiry.
198 "Zen argues that it is through stillness, not action, that a man can
realize himself, in the sense of actualizing his potentialities and
developing his personality towards the ideal state of harmonious integraton
of his powers."
The sweet spot or coherence in what is traditionally called, 'activity'
(sport, engineering, art, logic, etc.) is that point where the 'thing' doing
the
'activity' is DQ. For example, riding at the sweet spot it is a state in
which
distinctions between rider and thing rode disappear; where does the rider
begin
and where does he/she end? Where does the bike begin and where does it end?
Stillness - coherence.
Mark 1-8-04: Zen is a mystical religion, so this is why dmb included CA198
regarding, "thoughts on religion and spirituality in general." If this is
correct, then coherence is directly relevant to dmb's approach, and also contradicts
his assertion that, "Another problem would be his constant hijacking of
threads to discuss this pet idea, which has absolutely nothing to do with
anti-theism."
Pirsig: "Zen argues that it is through stillness, not action, that a man can
realize himself..."
Mark 1-8-04: This above is qualified: "...in the sense of actualizing his
potentialities and developing his personality towards the ideal state of
harmonious integration of his powers." Coherence is an 'ideal state' of sq-sq tension.
'Harmony' is an aesthetic term already linked with coherence. 'Integration'
is a formal term. Coherence is formed from that which is usually incoherent.
A standing wave is coherent and 'still' even though it may have enormous
potential energy.
