[MarshaV] Would you tell me the positive aspects for each of the seven sins.
I'm curious. They sound like the opposite side of the coin.
Hi MarshaV and all,
I would be happy to. This formulation was used and taught to me by a lady I
highly respect. She was a student of John Bennett in England.
Negative Positive
Covetous External consideration
Greed Generosity
Gluttony Freedom (my understanding of Freedom is 'goal-seeking')
Envy Appreciation
Anger Creativity
Sloth Trust
Pride Service
IMO everybody has these motives in a certain order. A certain vibration so
to speak! IMO The evolutionary levels of Pirsig are another aspect of
morality. Gurdjeiff and Ouspensky in their writings use a different
vocabulary, mind, emotion, moving-sex-instinctive centers. They are also in
a certain order in each individual as motivating forces. Is this hash? For
me it is something to practice.
Intellect Mind
Social Emotion
Organic Moving-sex- instinct
Inorganic Moving-sex-instinct
(I have a hard time with the word 'instinct' and 'mind'. For me they imply
some kind of organ. IMO 'mystic' for 'instinct' and 'intellect' for 'mind'
are better words.)
IMO with all of these as motives, an individual's morality is not just a
consideration of inorganic, organic, social, or intellectual levels. The DQ
or mystical element of each level does not have a common vocabulary, but
rather 'you'll know it when you see it' approach. IMO 'know thyself'
requires a little work and practice.
