Yes, and that support comes at least in part from their religious
understanding. I'm referring to Christians (and those of other religions)
who think that government programs for welfare, public education, and so
on, should be expanded. They support using the tax code to redistribute
wealth (or, at least, money). I am not claiming that this is necessarily
good Christian practice (nor am I claiming it isn't). I just want people to
keep in mind that the "culture wars", so-called, is not just between
conservative Christians and liberal secularists. There are also a lot of
liberal Christians who tend to line up with the secularists on these
issues, and are just as upset over teaching creationism as science. And, of
course, there are also secular conservatives, both social and fiscal.
