Hi Steve,
STEVE:
I believe the "A values precondition B" thing was

PIRSIG
In the [MoQ] "causation" is a metaphysical term that can be replaced by
"value." To say that "A *causes* B" or to say that "B *values* precondition
A" is to say the same thing. The difference is one of words only. Instead
of saying "A magnet *causes* iron filings to move toward it," you can say
"Iron filings *value* movement toward a magnet" [LILA ch 8 p119].
RICK
A = Magnet, B = Iron Filings. Are these not stable patterns of inorganic
value?
STEVE
The pattern is the sort of relationship between A and B which is
value-centered.
RICK
Yes. The relationship between the magnet and the iron filings, is a
pattern. But don't forget that the magnet itself and the iron filings
themselves are also patterns! They are stable patterns of inorganic value.
