just brief comment, since I've got very little time here..
there is good and shite out there.
i wonder why pirsig put the quote he did, at the beginning of ZMM........
I've experienced both sides of the spectrum. From listening/playing works
from masters of composition, to those of the completely unskilled
(highschool band), as well as now attempting at playing my own material in a
"band" , which may well be considered to have the flavourings of "rock".
There is a very exceptional amount of DQ in Rock (and jazz, funk, and plenty
of "newer" genres)
Everything from the use of improvisations (which is not found in classical
music [there may be a very few exceptions to this]) , and sometimes that
lack of structure.
IF you want to sample something, go ahead with Pink Floyd. Myself, my
brother (both lifetime players so far) , past Piano teachers (with Masters
in musicology, and exceptional pianists) have had positive things to say of
pink floyd.
but , I hate to point out specific groups/artists like this. THere are so
many rock groups that have exceptional genius to their work.
anyways, no ones reading, so time to go.
