PLATT: Right, nor would I ever assert that music is narrowing the mind of
America. As you know, music and capitalism are much broader categories than rock, and generalizations by definition are simplistic, like "It's this
intellectual pattern of amoral 'objectivity' that is to blame for the
social deterioration of America."." (Lila, 24)

ERIN: They both are generalizations...but yes if you said music it would be even more simplistic or a bigger generalization.

PLATT: Can you imagine they would be more dynamic with more pornography?

Platt, I don't know what makes a city dynamic, just like I don't know exactly what makes a place degenerate. It seems complex so when you point to capitalism and say see how dynamic it makes this country and then point to rock-n-roll to say see how degenerate it makes this country but where would rock-n-roll be without capitalism it gets so confusing. In one way you are saying America is an improvement and in the other you are saying America is degenerate.

I guess the question is where would capitalism be without rock-n-roll? How do you know rock-n-roll hasn't been part of capitlism's success (or perceived success-- whatever you want to argue) I heard Erica Jong talk about America sending schizo messages about sex. Here I see you sending schizo messages about America just like Rigel sending schizo messages about Canada. (I am not trying to call you Rigel of the group, but there are mixed messages to me that need to be addressed"

Is America more degenerate....is it more moral? Really confused about what you think.

    Erin

pg.11 Rigel talking about the Canadians

"There's something about the though like they don' t approve of what they see"

Rigel "Well I approve of that"

    What do you mean?

Rigel: They're moral people. We could use a little of that."

Then later when they are "degenerating" Phaedrus asks "Are those your moral Canadians"

Rigel " There are two kinds. The one that disapproves of this coutnry for all the junk they find here and the other kind loves this country for all the junk they find here"
